OtO Lawn

Can I connect OtO to an existing in-ground sprinkler system?

Yes! You can absolutely connect OtO to most existing functioning in-ground sprinkler systems. This can be a great way to avoid having to route or hide hoses in your yard. Here's how.

All you need to do is use a very short hose to connect your sprinkler system to OtO.

What you need:

1) Existing pipe thread

3) Short garden hose

4) Your OtO Smart Sprinkler

How to:

1. Most in-ground sprinkler heads are attached to a 1/2" or 3/4" male NPT (National Pipe Thread) threaded input. To use a standard hose to connect the existing piping to the OtO Sprinkler, convert the NPT thread to GHT (Garden Hose Thread) using a Female NPT to Male GHT adapter.

2. Use the shortest hose possible with a minimum ID of 5/8" to connect to the OtO.

3. Attach OtO to the hose, turn on the water and continue setting up like normal.

  • Test for leaks before connecting OtO
    • To check for leaks: add a Y connector at the main inlet and attach a pressure gauge on one side. Close the valve on all other lines that OtO is not going to be used on. Cap the nozzle head output that you want to attach OtO. Pressurize the line (turn on the water) for at least 2 minutes and close the inlet valve after. Watch the gauge for 5 minutes. If the gauge reading stabilizes close to the initial reading, there should be no leak.
  • Flush/clean the line for debris before connecting OtO
    • Set up the line exactly how you want it, but without OtO connected. Run the water at max capacity (valves fully open) for a few minutes until you see clear water coming out of the hose. We recommend to check/clean the screen at OtO's inlet (where the hose connects to OtO) before using for the first time.
  • In-ground sprinklers usually have controllers and solenoid valves for timing watering applications. It's a good idea to make sure the solenoid valve is open prior to scheduling OtO to water!
  • ⚠️ Do not bury the OtO device itself. Doing so can permanently damage the unit preventing it from working.
